17/5 1963 The Monterey Folk Festival was held for the first time. Joan Baez, Bob Dylan and Peter, Paul & Mary were among others on stage. Another performer who was there was Bessie Jones, an American gospel and folk singer credited with bringing folk songs, games and stories to a larger audience in the 1920s.
