8/5 1965 Bob Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues" commercial was filmed. Filming was done next to the Savoy Hotel in London, and actors in the background were Allen Ginsberg and Bob Neuwirth. This became one of the first "modern" promotional clips, and thus a forerunner of the music video. The original clip was actually the opening segment of DA Pennebaker's film, Don't Look Back, a documentary about Bob Dylan's tour of England, 1965. Dylan, came up with the idea of holding up signs for the camera, with handwritten words and phrases from the lyrics. The signs were written by Donovan, Allen Ginsberg, Bob Neuwirth and Dylan himself. While staring into the camera, he flips and displays the signs, while the song plays.
